What can I use Renaissance Wax on? Renaissance Wax can be used to protect almost any surface from paper to stone, including wood, metals(including brass, copper and silver to create a barrier against tarnishing), marble, granite, stone, leather, ceramics, ivory etc. For more information please click here.

Can I use Renaissance Wax to protect things outdoors? Yes Renaissance Wax has been used extensively, around the world, to protect outdoor items such as wooden furniture, brass plaques on monuments, metal sculptures, and cars for example.

Does Renaissance Wax contain silicone? NO, Renaissance Wax does not contain silicone. Silicone is not something that is approved of in the field of professional restoration and conservation due to the damage that would be caused trying to remove it. Professional restorers and conservators must be able to safely remove any surface treatment used on an antique, if a better solution becomes available in the future. Our wax is used by museums and restorers of every kind around the world.

Does Renaissance Wax contain a UV filter? Renaissance Wax does not contain any UV filters. To be effective, the filter (an oil) would need to be incorporated in a sufficient concentration – which would wreck the hardening and clarity of Renaissance Wax.

Can I use Pre-lim on silver? No, Pre-lim is a mildly abrasive paste and should therefore not be used on any semi-precious or precious surfaces such as silver.

What is the difference between Pre-lim and Renaissance Metal De-Corroder? Pre-lim is a mildly abrasive paste used to treat areas of corrosion on flat/smooth metals such as swords / armour and metal coachwork on cars. Renaissance Metal De-Corroder is a gentle laboratory-style fluid more suitable for intricate items ( e.g clock parts / old coins) that can be dropped into a bath of the solution. It can also be painted or swabbed on to larger surfaces that cannot be immersed.
